The Background
Shortly before graduating from University in 2010, myself & fellow course mate Chris Seed started the ambitious task of creating 19 Grams, a graduate start-up creative studio, to launch ourselves into after our graduation. The studio was to help us market our skills, garner a client base, give us some real-world experience in our chosen industry and hopefully pay the bills too!

The Solution
Our identity was a simple one, but was very finely crafted. Both of us are modernists and minimalists so we opted for an elegant typographic symbol and flexible, modern typography with ITC Avant Garde. Our collateral was always on flat white, making use of our rich red sparingly. Our 2011 annual report was a beautifully hand-screened A1 poster which used our red in overlaid print on a greyscale infographic. Our cards were triplexed with a middle layer of red acetate film. The two outer card layers had a die cut corner revealing a hint of transparent red.

The Results
The studio ran for two years with exceptional success. We scooped the Creative Leicestershire Graduate Business Award 2010, a Worldwide Logo Design (WOLDA) award, a PayPal Ideas 101 Marketing award and were finalists for the Lloyds TSB Enterprise awards in 2011. Our work was published internationally and we garnered clients ranging from Warner Bros. to Tesco & Microsoft. Whichever way you look at it, we obviously did something right because we even had a visit from the Prime Minister for being a shining example of young enterprise.
